A man who laced sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.
The defendant was detained after eight minors and one adult became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a young boy.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.
The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel stated objects including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepson notified the authorities about his concerns.
She explained Ruben proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.
The legal representative explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement again.
She said Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
