Officers reported they were contacted by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report early analysis suggest the substance was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.

An important political figure commented the incident made him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
